This rare crystal decanter was designed by Vicke Lindstrand for Orrefors in the 1930's and is from Lindstrand's "Iced" range. The heavy piece is made from clear crystal and features a distinctive clear and acid polished finish reminiscent of the thin icy layer which forms on winter ponds. It can also be seen on glass after being stored in the freezer - definitely a highly appropriate motif for a decanter.
The decanter has a rectangular shape with rounded shoulders which transition to a short cylindrical neck with an everted rim. The piece comes complete with its original fitted stopper which has a tapered spike form. The decanter is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As a vintage item the piece shows signs of age consisting of a few very minor nicks on the base of the stopper which are mentioned for accuracy. The piece stands 9.5" tall as measured to the top of the stopper and measures 5.125" by 2.25" at the foot. The stopper itself is 3.5" long. The underside is hand signed "Orrefors" and "154/4" in diamond point pen. The decanter is a substantial piece and weighs in at 3lb 11oz.
This striking Orrefors crystal decanter is a fantastic example of the clean lines found in Scandinavian design and displays beautifully. An elegant and useful vintage find.
