This antique French porcelain personalized floral shaving mug was made by William Guerin Limoges. The shaving mug features a large hand painted garland made up of 5 pink roses and associated green foliage. The design includes thorny brown canes which extend up and to the left in addition to dried rose hip accents scattered among the flowers. The name "G Freudenberger" has been executed in large gilt letters beneath the flowers. The piece is trimmed in gilt on the handle and has additional gilt bands at the rim and foot.
The cup is in good condition with no cracks or repairs. As an antique item, the piece shows signs of age consisting of consisting wear/losses to the gilt trim. It should also be noted that there is a divot on the rim - it is unclear if the flaw is related to production or was incurred through use. These issues are mentioned for accuracy and as seen in the accompanying photographs the shaving mug displays very well.
The cup stands 3.625" tall and is 3.5" in diameter at the mouth. The foot is 3.5" in diameter and the underside bears a green William Guerin mark along with the words "LIMOGES FRANCE". The piece weighs in at 11 oz.
This lovely 19th century porcelain floral shaving mug would be a great addition to a grouping of floral shaving mugs or works equally well showcased on its own. A charming antique find!
