This elegant circa 1901 English rectangular dresser box features an ornate sterling silver lid along with a cut crystal base. The silver lid is decorated with Rococo motifs including flowers and scrolls along with an asymmetric shell edge. The center has a domed cartouche that has not been monogrammed. The sides of the lid are finished in a gadroon edge. The clear crystal base is decorated in a cane pattern while the underside bears a deeply cut 8 point star.
The dresser box is in very good condition with no removals or repairs. The lid is original to the piece and fits snugly on the top. As an antique item, the lid shows signs of age including light scratches and minor waviness at the edges which are mentioned for accuracy. The base also shows signs of age consisting of a few tiny nicks along with some light scratches. The box stands 1" tall. The lid is 3.125" by 1.375" and the side carries a 1901 Birmingham hallmark with what appears to be a slightly rubbed Levi & Salaman makers mark. The cut crystal base is 2.875" by 1.25". The lid itself weighs 10 grams while the entire piece weighs 67 grams.
This English silver lidded cut crystal box displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of Victorian/Edwardian dresser boxes. A very pretty piece!
