This antique German floral shaving mug was made by highly regarded porcelain manufacturer KPM. The mug features polychrome decoration in the form of a floral garland which includes pink roses and small blue flowers along with green leaves. The image includes a blue ribbon tied in a large bow that has been accented with pink highlights. There is a rectangular reserve at the bottom bordered by brown branches which create a "frame" that is attached to the blue ribbon by virtue of thin strings. The center of the reserve has been hand lettered with the name "JOHN KNIGHT" in gilt paint. The mug has a loop handle at one side.
The floral shaving mug is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As an antique item the mug shows signs of age consisting of wear to the gilding which is mentioned for accuracy. The piece stands 3.625" tall and is 3.5" in diameter at the mouth. It measures 4.375" from the back of the handle to the opposite rim. The foot is 3.375" in diameter and the underside carries a green KPM sceptre mark used between 1840 and 1895. The shaving mug weighs in at 13oz.
The shaving mug comes with a vintage badger hair shaving brush. The brush bears the impressed words "Prophylactic 75 Set in Rubber Sterilized Made in USA". The hairs are securely attached to the base and are not overly splayed. As a vintage piece it should be noted that there are a few vertical splits at the top of the brush which are mentioned for accuracy. The brush is 3.75" long in total while the base itself is 1.25" long.
