This adorable hand painted art pottery nut dish was made by Ohio based Weller Pottery and is from the company's popular Woodcraft range. The low round bowl is ornamented with oak leaves and branches along with acorns. One side has a deep curving lip with a ruffled edge formed by overlapping leaves. The dish features a figural brown bushy-tailed squirrel perched atop a tree branch while nibbling a nut held between its front paws.
The circa 1920's nut dish is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As a late vintage item the dish shows appropriate signs of age consisting of age related crazing to the glaze which is mentioned for accuracy. The nut dish stands 5" tall as measured to the uppermost part of the squirrel and is 7.5" from the back of the squirrel's tail to the opposite rim of the bowl. The bowl itself is approximately 5" across the top and 3" across the foot. The piece weighs in at 1lb 7oz. The nut dish is unmarked but attributable to Weller.
This Weller squirrel themed candy/nut dish displays beautifully and would be a would be a great addition to a collection of Woodcraft items or works equally well as a stand alone decorative accent. A very sweet piece!
