This fantastic 1920s Arts and Crafts ceramic vase was made by Weller Pottery of Ohio. The piece is from Weller's Coppertone range and has been finished in green and coppery brown along with cream glaze. The body of the vase has a fan shape made up of a series of overlapping reeds and features two lifelike dimensional frogs that are seated at either side of the reeds. The front and back of the piece bear molded cream-colored water lily flowers located at the center while the lower portion is decorated in overlapping lily pads. The piece is elevated on four feet.
The vase is in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As a late vintage item, the piece shows appropriate signs of age consisting of crazing to the glaze on the underside. It should also be noted that there are production related anomalies to the application of the glaze reflecting the hand finished nature of the piece which serve to emphasize its hand crafted vibe. The vase stands 8.25" as measured to its tallest point and is 9.625" by 3.75" at the mouth. The foot is 5.25" by 3.625". The underside of the piece is not marked for Weller but is attributable to the company. The vase weighs in at 3lbs 2oz.
This highly collectible Weller dual frog Coppertone fan vase displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of vintage American art pottery. Great showcased on a shelf or table, or could be used as to hold a floral arrangement. A charming vintage find!
