These antique 19th century Staffordshire plates were made by Thomas Allen & Spencer Green of the Minerva Works in Fenton. The plates have an Imari motif and are decorated in blue and rust with copper lustre accents, and feature large central medallions made up of flowers and foliage. The shoulders of the plates bear four large sections of floral and foliate decor with the same elements found in the central medallions and are separated by wide cobalt bands. The bands themselves delineate four smaller wedge-shaped sections which bear a diaper pattern with a lotus motif at the rim. Each plate is finished with two molded bow accents at either side that have been highlighted in copper lustre.

The plates are in good condition with no cracks or repairs and the decoration is crisp and clear. As antiques, the plates show appropriate signs of age consisting of light utensil marks on the faces, minor gilt loss on the rims and an old chip located on the edge of the rim of one plate. The plates are 9.75" across as measured from the furthest points of the molded bows and 9.25" from the edges of the rims themselves. Both plates bear a crowned Staffordshire Knot backstamp with the initials "TA & SG" for Thomas Allen & Spencer Green. They also bear an English Registry Mark which appears to read "Rd.No. 28488". The plates have a combined weight of 2lbs 4oz.

This matched pair of English Stafforshire plates display beautifully and would be a fantastic addition to an existing collection of Imari pieces, or work equally well as stand alone decorative accents. An elegant antique find sure to be a focal point wherever they are displayed.
