This highly collectible antique sterling silver golf trophy bowl features an applied emblem for North Carolina's famed Pinehurst Golf Club. The emblem was used on early Pinehurst sterling trophies and features a golf bag full of clubs which is oriented in a diagonal direction. The golf bag is surmounted by a tall pine tree with full branches. The imagery includes a golf ball on a tee to the lower right and a golf flag to the upper left. The scene is overlayed with a banner bearing the embossed words "PINEHURST GOLF CLUB" while the embossed words "PINEHURST NC" are printed at the bottom.
The bowl measures 8" in diameter and stands 1.625" tall. The piece has a highly polished surface with a decorative embossed border at the rim. The bowl has not been monogrammed and the underside bears makers marks for Watson along with the words "STERLING SILVER" immediately beneath. The piece carries the stamped item number "B147" and "8". It weighs in at 6.02 ozt / 187 grams.
The bowl is in good original condition with no removals or repairs. As an antique, the piece shows signs of age consisting of minor scratching/dents and some areas of tarnish that I have not attempted to remove. These issues are mentioned for accuracy and as seen in the accompanying photos, the bowl displays beautifully.
This classic sterling silver golf trophy would be a wonderful addition to a collection of antique sterling Pinehurst Golf Club memorabilia, or to a larger collection of sporting trophies. It also works equally well showcased on its own. A great antique find!
