This rare antique aquatint is after a painting of Queen Consort Venkata Rangammal Devi of Kandy by English artist William Daniell (1749-1840). The work was originally composed during Daniell's travels in India and was later engraved by Richard Woodman for inclusion in the book "The Oriental Annual, or Scenes in India" published in 1834.

This lovely framed artwork depicts the Queen Consort seated in a chair and dressed in a traditional Kandyan osaria along with ornate pearl and gold jewelry. Her dark hair is parted in the center and secured with flowers/lace at the back. Her expression is serene as she looks out with her gaze slightly averted from the viewer. The landscape behind her includes mountains and groupings of tall palm trees with green fronds. The visible portion of the artwork measures 5.75" by 4.25" while the framed dimensions are 10.5" by 8.5" by .75".

The piece is housed under glass with green and ecru mats. The wooden frame is finished in gold with flecks of black and has curvilinear details highlighted in red. The artwork is securely wired and ready to hang on receipt with largely intact brown paper backing. There is a label present for defunct Cincinnati art gallery reading "Another Fine Old Print ~ from ~ Blake Galleries 6730 Main Street Cincinnati Ohio 45244". As an antique the piece shows signs of age consisting of minor foxing which does not detract from its appearance and is mentioned for accuracy.

This unusual artwork displays beautifully and is nicely sized for a small space on a wall, or could be housed in an easel for placement on a shelf or table. A striking antique find!
