This antique circa 1830 - 1834 Staffordshire transferware vase was made by English pottery Ridgways. The piece has been made in the Bangkok shape and is decorated in the Imari pattern 5619, also known as Chinese Japan or Corey Hill. The striking decoration on the exterior includes Chinoiserie motifs consisting of pagodas, vases and exotic florals with foliate details, many of which are accented in hand enameled shades of cobalt blue, rust and orange. The interior of the rim is also hand decorated.

The vase is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and displays beautifully. That said, it should be mentioned that there are flecks of material caught in the glaze and slight irregularities in the transfer pattern and hand painted enamel, both of which are commonly found in antique transferware and do not detract from the appearance of the piece. The underside bears Ridgways early blue beehive and urn backstamp with the initials "W.R." for William Ridgway along with a printed number "3". The hand painted number "5619" and letter "N" are also present and have been executed in rust paint. The vase stands 10.25" tall and the mouth is 4.125" in diameter. The foot is 3.375" in diameter. The body of the vase is approximately 5" across at its widest point and weighs in at 2lbs 2oz.

This lovely early 19th century English transferware vase would be a wonderful addition to a collection of antique Imari whether displayed on a shelf or table or in a cabinet. It can also be used as intended and looks great filled with flowers. A gorgeous antique find!
