This early 19th century hand painted pink lustreware English cup and saucer set has been finished in the strawberry pattern and features a series of red strawberries studded with brick red seeds and topped with green caps. The strawberries grow along curvilinear stems bearing groupings of leaves along with multiple delicate curlicue tendrils. The rims of the cup and saucer have been finished in wide pink lustre bands and have narrow lustre bands which border the strawberry decoration. The arched handle of the cup also has a thin linear lustre accent.
The set is in very good condition with no chips, hairlines or repairs. As antiques, the pieces show signs of age consisting minor wear to the lustre decoration which does not detract from the appearance of the pieces and is mentioned for accuracy. There are a few production related anomalies present which include paint smudging and flecks of material caught in the glaze itself.
The cup stands 2.125" tall and is 32.5" in diameter at the mouth and 1.5" in diameter at the foot. The saucer is 5.5" in diameter and stands 1.125" tall. There are no makers marks present aside from decorator's marks on the bottom of the cup.
This charming pink lustreware cup and saucer would be a wonderful addition to a collection of antique lustreware or works equally well as a stand alone set. A lovely antique find!
