This Arts and Crafts era ceramic pin tray was made by Weller Pottery of Ohio. The pin tray has an organic form resembling a leaf or lily pad and features a life-sized dimensional frog perched to one side. As seen in the accompanying photographs, the frog has been moulded with realistic detail which is accentuated by the application of Weller's iconic green and copper/bronze Coppertone glaze. The design includes an emerging water lily bud located to the left of the frog.
The pin tray is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As a vintage item, the piece shows appropriate signs of age consisting of crazing to the glaze on the underside and minor shelf wear to the foot. It should also be noted that there are production related stilt marks from the kiln which are mentioned for accuracy. The pin tray stands .75" tall to the rim and is 2.75" tall as measured to the uppermost part of the frog. The pin tray itself is 4.5" from edge to edge and 6.5" from the back edge behind the frog to the opposite side. The underside of the piece bears the Weller ink stamped half kiln mark along with other decorator marks. The piece weighs in at 9oz.
This Weller Coppertone frog motif pin tray displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of American art pottery. It is nicely sized to hold jewelry by a sink or on a bedside table, or can be used as a decorative accent. A useful and charming find!
Please note that due to the value of this listing, the piece will be fully insured and shipped with signature confirmation service.
