This antique Victorian sterling silver box was made in 1905 by silversmiths Adie and Lovekin of Birmingham. The box has a rectangular form with a hinged lid featuring engraved scrolls bordered by bright cut decoration. The lid has a large shield shaped cartouche at the center which has not been monogrammed. The interior is finished in gilt wash. The underside of the box is slightly curved with an ergonomic shape designed to fit inside a pocket.
The box is in good condition with no removals or repairs. The hinged lid is fully functional and opens/closes securely, keeping the contents safely inside. As an antique, the piece shows signs of age consisting of some minor dents and light scratching to the surface which do not detract from the appearance of the piece and are mentioned for accuracy. The inside of the box is fully hallmarked for Birmingham silversmiths Adie and Lovekin and has a mark reflecting a production date of 1905. The piece measures 1.25" by 1" and stands .25" tall.
This lovely sterling box displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of antique English silver pieces. A perfect choice for storing pills or other small items.
