This unusual set of signed antique Arts and Crafts era single light taper candleholders feature an English Tudor Rose motif. The wide bases are formed in a classic Tudor Rose quatrefoil shape and have stems at the center which arch off to the side, forming large handles. The stems are each topped by a candle cup encircled with individually shaped realistic rose petals. The underside of the blossoms have dangling sepals which are also true to life. The design includes a pair of individually shaped leaves with serrated edges which are located at the base of the stems. The applied leaves are detailed with distinct veins on their surfaces.
The candlesticks are in very good condition with no repairs and have not been polished in order to preserve their patina. As antique items, the candlesticks show minor signs of wear related to age and light use consisting of light marks and discoloration to the finish and traces of old candle wax which are mentioned for accuracy. One candleholder bears a touchmark reading "METAL WORKERS GUILD LIMITED MONTREAL", best seen in photo 8. The other bears an indistinct makers mark along with the letters C. P. R. best seen in photo 9. The candleholders stand 3.5" tall and measure 6" across at the widest points of the bases. The opening at the top of the candleholders are 1.25" in diameter and the sockets are 1.25" deep. The set has a combined weight of 3lbs 5oz.
These rare bronze Arts and Crafts era Tudor Rose motif candleholders display beautifully and work well with Mission decor as well as in more eclectic settings. A fabulous antique find!
