This elegant set of 12 matched sterling silver gilt washed demitasse coffee spoons were designed by the artisans of Thorvald Marthinsen of Norway. The spoons have been made in the classic Prince Harald pattern, introduced after the birth of Norway's Prince Harald in 1937. According to the company website "Inspiration [for the pattern] came from uniforms with their crisp lines and stripes of rank. Each piece in the set repeats the stripes of rank from a uniform." The top of the handles themselves feature glossy black enamel decoration which contrasts beautifully with the gold wash finish. As seen in the accompanying photographs, the versatile design of the set coordinates well with both contemporary or vintage china and/or silver patterns.
The spoons are in very good original condition with no removals or repairs and show little sign of use. The enamel on the finials is complete and undamaged. The original case and satin lining are also in very good original condition with minor wear related to storage. The back of the spoons are each hallmarked "TH. MARTHINSEN STERLING NORWAY" and the case bears a ribbon stamped "MADE IN NORWAY". The spoons measure 4" long while the bowls are 0.875" at their widest point. The set weighs in at 110 grams. The box itself measures 6.625" by 5.375" by 1.375". The Prince Harald pattern is no longer in production.
These matched Th. Marthinsen Prince Harald gilt washed enameled demitasse spoons display beautifully and would be a great addition to an existing collection of fine Scandinavian silver spoons or work equally well on their own. A lovely and useful set!
