This hand blown vase was made by highly regarded glass craftsman Dominick Labino (1910–1987). The vase has a striking color reminiscent of blue/green sea glass with an iridized sheen. The ovoid body tapers in as it rises and has two small handles at the top which are located on either side of the neck. The vase is finished with a wide oval mouth that slopes down gently at the center. The underside is signed by the artist along with the number 5-1970.

The vase is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. As a vintage item, the piece shows signs of age consisting of light scratching on the base related to storage which is mentioned for accuracy. The vase stands 6.75" tall and is 3.5" by 3.235" at the widest point of the body. The mouth of the vase is 2.5" by 2.25" and the foot is 2" in diameter with a ground and polished pontil. The vase weighs in at 1 lb 12 oz.

According to biographical information about the artist sourced from the Smithsonian American Art Museum "Labino consider[ed] himself an inventor rather than an artist and holds more than sixty patents in the U.S. for industrial glass processes, including the heat-resistant fibers used in space shuttles. He believe[d] that understanding the properties of glass is essential to working with the medium. Labino has been influential in studio glass, formulating unique compositions, building his own equipment, and discovering new ways of working with color." His work is held in the permanent collections of multiple major museums and private collections throughout the world.

This lovely Labino hand blown vase displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of fine art glass. A gorgeous piece from an esteemed artist.
