This charming antique hand painted English majolica pitcher features a pink flowers and green leaves set on a wide cobalt blue band. The top and bottom of the piece bear bright yellow glaze applied over a raised lattice pattern. There is an angular handle to one side which also has relief decoration and is glazed in olive green. The interior of the piece is finished in a soft rose colored glaze.
The pitcher is in very good antique condition with some age related crazing to the glaze and no cracks or repairs. That said, it should be noted that there are minor anomalies present commonly found in antique pottery including minor glaze skips and pops and flecks of material caught in the glaze itself. These issues are mentioned for accuracy and do not detract from the appearance or function of the pitcher. The piece stands 8" tall as measured to the top of the spout and 7.5" from the tip of the spout the back edge of the handle. The mouth is 4.75" across while the foot is 5.375" in diameter. As seen in photo 10, the underside of the foot bears hand painted cobalt blue decorator marks. The pitcher weighs in at 1 lb 15 oz.
This lovely pitcher displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of antique English pottery. It is ready to be pressed into service at the table, or could also be used as an unusual vase. A pretty and practical antique find!
