This original watercolor was executed by well listed painter Victor Casnelli (1867-1961). The artist began his career in Cincinnati before moving to Michigan where he worked until his death in 1961. Casnelli is best known for depictions of American Indians but also painted Orientalist subjects, beach scenes and landscapes.

This original Casnelli painting depicts a bucolic outdoor scene set in early springtime. The artwork features a Breton woman seated on a grassy hillside beneath the spreading branches of a tree bearing pink blossoms. She sits with her right elbow on her knee and chin resting on her fingers as she regards an open field which slopes away to a treeline tinged with bright green leaves. The image includes a long handled primitive wooden rake at the woman's side, the handle of which is gripped loosely in her left hand. The artwork is housed in a wooden frame finished in a soft green shade which complements the colors found in the painting and trimmed in gold paint.

The artwork is in very good original condition and is ready to hang on receipt. The framed dimensions are 22.5" x 14.5" while the exposed portion of the painting is 19.625" x 11.625". As seen in photo 9 the piece bears the artist signature "V CASNELLI" at the lower right. The frame is in good condition with a few scuffs and nicks related to age. It should also be mentioned that the paper backing on the frame has a few tears which have been repaired with tape. It also bears the frame shop's original label reading "Suder's Art Store". The framed artwork weighs in at 3lbs 8oz.

This original framed Casnelli watercolor displays beautifully and works well with traditional furnishings as well as more eclectic decor. A charming antique find with a very appealing subject.
