This exquisite antique Venetian hand blown/hand enameled Italian art glass features the ornate Canine and Foliate pattern designed by Vittorio Zecchin and has been executed in enamel. The underside bears a S.A.L.I.R. label - Studio Ars Labor Industrie Riunite of Venice. S.A.L.I.R. was founded in 1923 and was known for glass engraving, sandblasting, enameling and engraving application of gold leaf.
The hand painted decoration on this diminutive glass consists of a series of light green vertical lines bearing light green curvilinear stems and foliate shapes along with small red berries. The stems and leaves are accented in tan. The decoration also includes three tawny dogs highlighted in black leaping amongst the greenery. The underside of the piece retains its original rectangular paper label printed with "S.A.L.I.R." and "MADE in ITALY". The label also bears the numbers and letters "SR53V" hand written in ink.
The glass is in excellent original unrestored condition with no chips or cracks. The enamel paint is complete and free from damage. As seen in the accompanying photographs the label shows appropriate signs of age including discoloration and a small section of missing paper. The piece stands 2.5" tall and is 2.25" in diameter at the mouth. The foot is 1.25" in diameter. The glass weighs in at 2.5 oz.
This striking hand enameled glass displays beautifully and would be a wonderful addition to a collection of Canine and Foliate pieces or to a larger grouping of fine antique Venetian art glass. A fabulous find.
