This signed art glass disc shaped paperweight was made by well known artist, Robert Eickholt. The planet style piece is composed of clear glass featuring embedded dichroic blue/green teal and gold glass with a swirling crackle effect. The base of the paperweight is signed “Eickholt” and is also etched with the date "1990".
Robert Eickholt studied glassblowing in Berkeley, California and returned to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio in 1978 to open his own glassblowing studio. He furthered his studies at Ohio State and Columbus College of Art and Design and went on to develop a national and international reputation for finely crafted art glass. Eickholt often employs precious metals like gold and silver along with oxides like cobalt and copper in his works, lending them an iridescent quality.
The paperweight is in excellent vintage condition and has no scratches, cracks or impact marks on its surface. The piece weighs 1 lb and stands 1.5" tall and is 3.5” wide. The paperweight can be displayed standing up on the flat base or horizontally on its ground out polished pontil.
This highly collectible paperweight displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of Eickholt pieces or to a wider grouping of fine art glass. A lovely vintage find.
