This antique 12.75" chop plate was made in England by well regarded china and earthenware manufacturer, Cauldon. The face of the plate features a large colorful floral bouquet made up of pink roses, blue and yellow forget-me-nots, orange daisies and a tulip along with other flowers and associated greenery. The shoulders of the plate have been finished in a blue quilted pattern made up of snowflake-like stars and dots. The quilted pattern is bordered on the inner rim with a geometric pattern and by foliate scrolls at the edge. The decoration includes three cartouches with bright floral groupings and butterflies.
The chop plate is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The decoration is crisp and the color is vivid. As an antique, the piece shows appropriate signs of careful use consisting of light utensil marks to the surface and minor wear to the foot which do not detract from the appearance of the piece and are mentioned for accuracy. The underside of the plate bears a blue Cauldon England backstamp and is also impressed with the word "CAULDON" and number "12". The item is hand lettered in teal with pattern number "2937" and other decorator marks. There are also production related stilt marks present. The chop plate weighs in at 2 lbs 5.5 oz.
This lovely chop plate displays beautifully and would be a wonderful addition to a collection of fine antique English transferware. A great gift for someone special or may be just what you are looking for to add to your own tableware collection. Very pretty!
