This hand made brass Brutalist purse was made by in Brazil by Dutra's. The highly collectible piece has an oval form with a hinged lid. The lid is attached to the body of the purse at an angle and has a latch which folds down over a corresponding bead. As seen in the accompanying pictures, the lid features applied freeform decoration, as does the front of the piece. The lid is accented by a large raw amethyst, a signature Dutra's design element. The interior of the lower portion of the piece is lined in brown fabric. The purse has two loops at either side which hold a long link-form chain shoulder strap.
The purse is in good condition with no removals or repairs. As a vintage item, the piece shows signs of light use consisting of minor scuffs/scratching/dents along with small areas of age-related discoloration, all of which are mentioned for accuracy. The piece stands 5.5" as measured from the base to the tallest point of the amethyst ornament on the lid and is 4.75" tall from the base to the top of the lid itself. The piece measures 4" across the body and is 4" by 3" at the base. The chain has a 21" drop and the piece is 25" in length when the chain is fully extended. The underside of the piece is signed "Dutra's" in script. The purse weighs in at 13oz.
This striking piece would be a great addition to a collection of artisan crafted evening bags. A distinctive vintage find!
