This pair of miniature bone china vases were made by English porcelain manufacturer, Royal Worcester and have been hand painted by highly regarded artist, James Stinton. Stinton is known for his depictions of game birds, particularly pheasants and grouse. The birds were most often painted in flight or on the ground within their natural settings.

These matched Royal Worcester vases have ovoid bodies which give way to long, cylindrical necks with flared rims. The lower portion of the pieces feature colorful images of a male and female pheasant standing amongst grassy undergrowth with taller shrubs and trees visible in the background. The backs of the vases have each been painted with a clump of vegetation, adding visual interest when the pieces are viewed from behind. The rims are finished in sponged gilt paint while the foot rims have a simple gilt band. The pieces look lovely together and can be positioned so that each pair of birds face one another.

The vases are in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As antique items, the pieces show appropriate signs of age consisting of crazing to the glaze which does not detract from the appearance of the set and is mentioned for accuracy. The vases stand 5.25" tall and are 2.5" at the widest point of their bodies. The mouths are 0.75" across as measured from the outside edges of their rims, and the foot rims are 1.375" in diameter. The underside of the pieces bear the black Royal Worcester crown backstamp which reads "ROYAL WORCESTER BONE CHINA MADE IN ENGLAND" along with shape number "2491". They have a combined weight of 15oz.

These miniature hand painted pheasant bone china vases display beautifully and would be a great addition to a grouping of antique Royal Worcester pieces, or work equally showcased on their own. An elegant antique find!
