This antique 19th century Blush Ivory jug was made by English porcelain manufacturer, Royal Worcester. Royal Worcester traces its roots to 1751 and is recognized for the high quality of its materials as well as for the exquisite hand painted pieces executed by the company's skilled artisans.

According to information published by the Royal Worcester Museum, "The production of Blush Ivory was a complex and expensive process. First the shape was cast from liquid Parian clay (a cream coloured porcelain), in plaster of Paris moulds. Often an item was made in several pieces that were then assembled (using liquid clay or slip) and any impressed marks were added before the first or biscuit firing. Next a gloss ivory glaze was added to the inside of the piece and it was dipped into a matt straw-coloured glaze to cover the outside. This was then finished with areas of soft apricot glaze, sprayed onto the piece using the newly invented aerograph machine. Areas such as the handle, that were to be finished in heavy gold, were also painted with a dark coral coloured glaze or undercoat. The pot was then fired in the kiln a second time.

This unusual Blush Ivory porcelain piece has been made in the form of a handled jug with two spouts, one narrow and the other with a wide mouth. The handle and spouts have been heavily gilded. The body of the piece has been finished in a matte ivory color and hand painted with a variety of realistically rendered colorful flowers along with mauve and pink foliage, all of which are accented with fine gilded accents. The foot has been finished with a wide band of gilding.

The jug is in very good antique condition other than the end of the long narrow spout which has been ground down at some point. The piece has been priced accordingly. There are no chips, cracks or other damage present on the piece. The glazed foot of the jug bears the puce-colored Royal Worcester crowned backstamp with the capital letter date code "Z", which corresponds to 1888. The piece also has the mold number "1041" and English Registry Mark "Rd No. 14616" which was used in 1890. The 2.5" diameter foot is incised with the mold number and hand painted with the decorator initials "BN" and "K3". The jug stands 7.25" tall as measured to the uppermost part of the handle and is approximately 4.5" at the widest point of the body. The jug weighs in at just over 11oz.

This rare Royal Worcester gilded jug displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of antique Blush Ivory, or works equally well as a stand alone piece.
