his colorful painting by Patience Arnold depicts a festive Victorian country scene featuring the Muffin Man handing a treat to a young boy while his family looks on. The group is shown standing at the bottom of a grassy hill which has a long path winding its way to the top. The pathway is filled with people rushing to the crest of the hill where a village fair is going on. Several colorful striped tents are visible in the distance along with a carousel and a gypsy cart.
This charming original painting was executed by British painter Patience Arnold, born in 1901 in Barnsley, Yorkshire. Arnold, a well known watercolorist who also illustrated children's literature, passed away in Ambleside, Cumbria in 1992. Her works have a timeless style which is easily recognizable, and are a perfect choice for decorating a child's room. Her appealing works are also ideally suited for display at a school, pediatrician's office or in a children's clothing boutique, among other locations.
The painting is in excellent condition and has been professionally mounted and framed with a sage green mat edged at the inside with a shiny gold fillet. The solid wood frame is structurally sound and free of scratches and/or nicks. The piece is wired at the back for hanging and has two small bumpers at the lower corners to protect the wall on which it is hung.
The visible portion of the artwork measures 13" x 10.25" while the frame itself is 20.125" x 18". The watercolor is housed under glass and the framed artwork has a total weight of 4lbs 10oz. As seen in photo 7, the artist's signature appears in black at the lower right hand side of the piece.
This lovely artwork displays beautifully and would make a special baby gift, or may be what you have been looking for to hang in your own home or business. A sweet find sure to add a colorful touch to your decor.
