Antique Pewter Plate Annunciation Repousse
Angel Archangel Gabriel, Virgin Mary and Dove Holy Ghost Symbol
All in all this fabulous piece has so many thing to endear it to you! A lovely scene excellent craftmanship. The patina is soft and very pleasing. I place this piece at the era of 1700 to 1730 single cast reed with a normal rim. As I am not an expert my research leads me to my description. I could be mistaken. I gladly will accept any additional information or correction.
11" Plate with a very detailed repousse Annunciation. The plate has a single folded rim with a scalloped sloped interior. Engraved eight pointed star. The wear on the plate is appropriate for its age. It is in fine condition.
There is a strong image of a small part of the touchmark. I have looked but have not been able to identify the maker.
Based on my research I believe it is a continental mark since there are letters (L and D) the rose and crown mark is not from England but a continental mark. English makers did not use letters in the rose and crown. With a L and a D it could be the name of the maker or Holland. I am continuing to research the touchmark.
Also a photo of one of the many Annunciation painting similar to the depicted scene on the plate.
The composition on the plate reminds me of the Flemish school.
