This is a fabulous Victorian needle box. It is covered with gilt paper and has a mirror top with a paper scrap showing a book and an open book that says "A Tribute of Love". The books are surrounded by lovely pink flowers. The box opens and displays another paper scrap a horse and rider racing and another fallen to the ground.
The packs of needles lift out on an accordion style sleeve. The needles are Maltbie's Silver Steel They are held in place with a red leather strip that has the size of the needles printed in gold. There are 6, 7, 8 and Assd (5/10). The 7, 8 and Assd packets are original. I have replaced the 6 with a packet of assorted needles by Picadilly Redditch England in order to make the box complete.
The box measures 2 3/8" x 1 7/8" and is in very good vintage condition.
What a fabulous sewing find.
