Meerschaum is the German word used for the mineral sepiolite, a soft white clay used for the carving of smoking pipes. About half of the world’s reserves are found in deposits in Spain. Turkey is widely known for having the best-known deposits that are used for manufacturing Meerschaum pipes. The use of Meerschaum to produce smoking pipes can be traced as far back as 1723.

This meerschaum pipe, portraying the figure of a musketeer wearing a distinctive feathered hat, measures approximately 5 ¾ inches in length and is approximately 2 ¾ inches tall. The bowl is ⅜ inches in diameter. The pipe is in unused condition.
