What a gorgeous little basket this is! It was skillfully carved at the beginning of last century, probably either in Brienz (region of Interlaken in Switzerland) or in the German Black Forest, both places being famous for their wood carvings. Who doesn’t know their impressive sculptures of actual sized bears, for instance? Our little basket would be less of a problem to be transported! This incredible basket has been carved out of one piece of wood. The openwork was probably meant to diffuse the fragrance of lavender or other aromatic herbs in a wardrobe. Today it could be used for potpourri, for instance. It has a nice carved lid and a wooden handle. The dimensions are: 4" (10 cm) diameter at the widest point and 6” (15 cm) high inclusive handle. It is in excellent vintage condition and will ship Priority registered airmail for $13 in the countries neighboring Switzerland and $18 anywhere else in the world. If you are a collector of unusual carved items, you will love to own this lovely basket!
