The New York City Opera closed its doors permanently last Fall and auctioned off their wardrobe of theaterical costumes. This is one of two pairs of traditional MAHARAJAH shoes that I will be featuring in my shop. These shoes were worn for the opera HAROUN that was staged in 2004. They were Handcrafted by BALLET MAKERS USA. They are embroidered with metallic gold embroidery. The curled tips are red leather. Taped inside the shoe is the name of the Opera...HAROUN and BUTT HERSCHENFELD. Printed in gold lettering is CAPEZIO who is known for making ballet shoes. They are in very good condition with just a tiny slit in the leather on the leather near the sole. The heels and soles are rubber and the tip is hard leather.
The Opera HAROUN is based on a children's book by author Salman Rushdie.
These shoes would be striking worn at a party or used for display. They are especially nice since they have a history.
