Had I know that my Uncle Morris Feinberg had this pottery yellow star with a white relief angel in his Spalding China / Royal Copely line I would have asked him for one! I was a child then in the 1940's when this was made. It would have gone on top of my mantle at Christmas time with a candle and Holly stuck in the planter! During the rest of the year I would have had it displayed in my room. I don't think that my sister would have minded. He did give me, my sister and the rest of my cousins his famous standing pig. We all had our name written in gold on his tummy. Inserted in the money slot was a folded bill! I still have my treasured pig with my name. He has a son Joe who was 9 years older. He was a sales manager for his father after he graduated from college. Joe is in his 80's now and lives in Florida. Joe was in the ceramic tile business in Miami.
Uncle Morris was the founder and director of Spalding China Company from 1939-1957. Competition with Japan made him close his doors. His products were far superior to Japans but Japan's cost was less. Uncle Morris paid his employees very well so his costs were higher that his competitors. He was also very generous person in his personal life.
The yellow ceramic star planter / candle holder / vase is 7" tall, 7" wide, 2" deep. The condition is excellent with no visible chips or cracks. It does have light crazing due to age. There are 3 yellow stars available which are priced separately. Hope you ENJOY them!
