Naughty or Dirty Dogs of Paris Print by Boris O Klein who became an artist and cartoonist and is best known for his hand colored etching of dogs getting into mischief. This is one of the series and is hand pencil signed by O’Klein and has been done on fine paper from BFK Rives by the watermark in the lower right hand corner. I am not sure the name of the print since I can’t read French! The print was produced by engraving and the technique requires the image to be “etched” into a plate of a hard surface by a tool called a burin. Ink is then rubbed all over the plate and the excess removed leaving ink in the etched lines. Good quality paper is needed which is dampened slightly. The plate and the paper are then put under a press leaving the image on the paper. Engraving is quite a time-consuming exercise as each print has to be individually done by hand. Overall size of this print is 20” X 8 ¼” (that is including the borders) and is in excellent condition with exception of two little ink spots that must of occurred while they were hand painting piece. One is in top left hand corner (thought it was a small spider) and the other under the shadow of cat in tree.
