This lovely porcelain music box is decorated on four sides and the lid with energetic, brightly colored scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet. The pictures all are on black background to emulate Russian lacquer boxes. Elaborate transfer decoration with generous gold enamel detail work done by hand. The red velvet floor of the inside holds a key and switch to the music box mechanism, which plays the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The space inside is generous enough for jewelry or keepsakes to fit as well.
The black edge of the lid overhangs the top of the box, balanced by a wide gold enamel border which stands out from the bottom and overhangs the feet.
Music box measures 4 ¾” long x 2 1/8” wide x 2 ¼” tall (stands on four black porcelain feet, each 3/8” high).
Underside of box is signed, copyright Ardleigh Elliott and Sons, 1991, beneath a printed statement in Russian Cyrillic. Above this is an inked-in limited edition number, 6274 E.
The condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, scratch marks or crazing. The music box has a sweet, true tone. – A perfect Christmas gift!
