Here is a stunning Crown Derby sweetmeat dish in the Red Aves (Latin for birds) pattern. The small dish is a modified square with clipped corners and outward-curving sides. The inside walls and bottom of the dish are covered with the wonderful applied Red Aves motif of exotic birds among stylized foliage. The rim of the little bowl is hand painted with a double gold enamel border, and at each corner is a flying bird handsomely molded in low relief, enhanced by hand in gold. The outer edge of the hollow pedestal base is also lined with gold. The piece is entirely covered with pure white glaze, including the inside of the pedestal, all but the table ring, which is unglazed.

The dish measures 5 ¼” square x 6” from one cut corner to the other x 1 ½” tall. The pedestal is 7/8” tall and its square base is 2 ¼” square x 3 ¼” from one clipped corner to the other.

The mark inside the hollow base is a version of the red Royal Crown Derby mark used from 1964 to 1975 (The Potteries). The Roman numeral XXX off to the side indicates 1967 (Godden’s p. 204).

Condition is excellent with no damage of any kind and no paint loss.
