Two orioles sit on a double stump in this stunning bird figurine by the Stangl Pottery. The birds are painted with identical markings of yellow and muted red on a glossy black ground. One bird, sitting on a tall stump, is looking up while the other one, on the lower stump, looks at the ground.
They are a very striking pair. They measure 6 5/8” tall x about 4 ½” wide
The figurine bears an oval transfer on the bottom, under the glaze, with Stangl / Pottery / Birds. Also impressed with shape number 3402D (the D is for double figurine). The artist’s initials DM, for Dale Morian, are inked under the glaze (Runge p. 99). The oval transfer under the glaze dates the piece to the 1940s (p. 102).
The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, scratch marks or crazing.
