This is a beautiful life-like bird with a blue head, back and wings and a tawny underside. His bright black eye is ringed with yellow; there’s a rust colored area at the back of his head. He sits on a leafy green stump from which grows a plant with a pink flower. The bird’s wings are spread and he seems ready to fly off - or perhaps he just landed.
The figurine measures 7” tall x 3 ¾” wide at widest point; bird itself is 6 ¾” tip to tail.
The word Stangl in russet inside an oval and a capital V are under the glaze on the underside of the piece along with the etched shape number, 3815, also glazed. The V is the signature of Veronica Malloy, an artist at Stangl’s Trenton Pottery. Figurine #3815 was made from 1949 until 1965 (Runge p. 129).
The condition of this western bluebird figurine is excellent with no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing. It’s ready to brighten up your bird collection or your desk!
