This is a charming demitasse set with shining gold enamel trim enhancing a colorful art deco floral and geometrical motif. Both cup and saucer are ringed with a stylized linear design in blue and yellow that is evocative of architectural trim. Below this on both pieces are stylized floral designs repeating the colors, but with some brighter pink and yellow flowers done in heavy, textured glaze. The cup’s rim and foot are ringed with gold enamel and the little loop handle is covered in gold. The rim of the saucer and the edge of the cup well also are gold enamel.
The cup measures 2 ½” across the rim x 2 ¼” tall x 1 ½” across the foot. The saucer is 4 ¾” in diameter x ½” high.
The undersides of both pieces are marked with a script L inside a green wreath over Lenox in block letters. Under this on a yellow banner is The Colonial (pattern name) and below the banner is Design Patented. The pattern was made from 1920 until it was discontinued in 1978.
There are a few shallow utensil marks in the floor of the saucer. The overall condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or crazing. Very handsome and formal.
