This is a gorgeous old hand painted Nippon chocolate cup and saucer adorned with stylized violets and leaves outlined in black. The rim of the cup is heavily lined with gold enamel; the handle, base of cup and rim of saucer also are lined with gold. The stunning violets all around the cup and saucer are joined together by chain-linked violet stems. And on both pieces, between the chain of violets and the gold enamel rim is a row of linear moriage design which lends a geometric contrast. - Did I already say stunning?!
The cup measures 3” tall x 2 5/8” across the rim x 2” across foot. The saucer is 4 7/8” wide x ¾” high.
Backstamp on cup is the Rising Sun mark in blue, dating piece between 1890-1921. Saucer is unmarked.
There is a dark underglaze freckle inside the cup which shows in photo #6. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing.
