This gorgeous little chocolate cup has a hexagonal foot to match the gold-lined hexagon which makes up the cup well on the dainty six-sided saucer. The cup bears two cartouches lined with etched gold, each containing full color paintings of a courting couple, walking and seated. Both pieces are lined with etched gold at the rims, lighter gold enamel scroll work and the daintiest light blue moriage work (beads). The saucer also boasts three gold baskets full of pink roses. The tapering cup is 2 1/16” wide at the rim x 1 ¾” wide at the foot x 2 7/8” tall. The hexagonal saucer is 5” wide at widest points.
Mark on saucer in green, is a double eagle under a crown with a cross and MZ over Austria. Mark was used until 1918 (efineantiques). According to Kovel’s on line Moritz Zdekauer Co. made porcelain between 1884-1909; it was purchased by Hutschenreuther in 1909 and the name changed. G.V.M. & Co. in green below maker’s mark on saucer probably decorator’s mark.
Both pieces are in excellent condition, with only minor wear to the gold edging of the cup well. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing to either piece. No paint loss to portraits.
