This is a perfect demitasse cup and saucer in Herend’s Queen Victoria pattern, hand painted skillfully and playfully with flowers and butterflies. Both pieces are ringed below the rims with embossed basket weave and both are bordered in pale green generously enhanced with gold. The dainty cup handle bears Herend’s “fish scale” motif in gold and the tiny foot of the cup also is ringed with gold. Tiny flower buds are randomly placed inside the cup and on the underside of the saucer.
Cup measures 2 ¼” across the rim x 2 ¼” tall. Saucer is 4” in diameter x about 1” high
Mark on undersides of both pieces is Herend’s standard blue overglaze mark used since 1948, Herend/Hungary arching over a shield with crossed paint brushes and Hand Painted below. There is no date code, so this piece is from before the 1990s. Number 709 appears on both pieces and the saucer also bears /vbo which means Victoria avec bord or (translated: Victoria with border of gold).
Condition is excellent with no flaws, chips, cracks, scratches, crazing or gold loss.
