Here’s an unusual, handsome piece! It’s an ultra modern demitasse pedestal cup with large abstract leaves in gold and black on a matte pink ground. The outside of the cup is white, unadorned except for gold at the rim, foot and handle. The saucer bears the same design as the cup, with gold at the rim and in a wide border around the cup well which is white.
Cup measures 2 ¾” across rim x 2” tall. Foot is 1 1/8” across. Saucer is 4 ½” in diameter.
Mark in green: a crown over Bavaria / Johann Seltmann / Vohenstrauss all underglaze with Quality Porzellan below in gold. Used around 1960 (Porcelain Marks and More on line). The number 2652 in gold also appears; probably the pattern number.
Condition of both pieces is excellent with minimal wear to the top surface of the saucer. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing. This is a charmer; a real blast from the past!
We have recently acquired a marvelous estate collection of cups and saucers - mostly demitasse, espresso, and chocolate cups - and will be listing them in small batches over the next few weeks. This is an eclectic collection, with one common element: they were all chosen as pieces of exceptional quality and taste. Included you will find sets for all budgets, from Herend to Haviland, Aynsley to Copeland Spode.
Cups and saucers - especially the diminutive demitasse - make a wonderful Christmas present for someone special. If you're interested in a particular maker or style you don't see, please email us, and we may have it on hand.
