Here is a wonderful silver espresso cup and saucer set featuring a fine white porcelain cup whose rim is trimmed with a wide band of gold. The ornate silver liner boasts a narrow band of foliate repousse under the rim, and a pierced Greek key motif in a wider band around the center. Embossed ribbing covers the lower portion of the lovely liner while the handle, curving up to the top of the cup, is adorned with impressed lines from its base to the little thumb rest at the top. The saucer repeats the embossed ribbing below its wide, flat rim.
Both the liner and the saucer are of shining German 800 silver made by silversmith Wilhelm T. Binder, a fine craftsman who founded his business in 1869 in Schwabisch, Gmund, Germany and soon became known all over Europe and America. Both silver pieces are impressed with Germany’s silver mark, a crescent moon, a crown and 800. This is followed by Wilhelm Binder's initials, WTB
The porcelain cup measures 1 5/8” across the rim x 2 7/8” tall. The silver liner is 2 ½” wide from rim to handle end x 1 3/8” high. The saucer is 3 1/8” in diameter.
All three pieces are in excellent condition with no damage of any kind. The little white cup has no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing. Apart from a tiny mark at the edge of the saucer's well, and some minor saucer scuff marks, mostly on the bottom, there is no wear and no damage to either of the silver pieces, (and no monograms!) The fine porcelain cup is also in perfect condition. This is a beautiful espresso set, ready to be used or to join a collection!
