These sweet little pieces, a demitasse (or demi tasse) cup and saucer made by Cauldon, are delicately festooned in garlands and swags in a foliate motif. Most of the design is pale green, but there is a delicate raised enamel garland of turquoise draped all around both pieces adding contrast. Both cup and saucer are adorned with gold enamel trim at their rims and the cup is also gilded at the foot and handle. The porcelain is translucent.
The cup measures 2 3/8” wide at the rim x 2 ¼” tall. The saucer is 4 5/8” in diameter and ½” high.
Both pieces are marked with Cauldon over England in black, both curving downward. This mark was used c.1920s (Collectible Cups and Saucers Vol. 3, Harran, mark # 12, p. 359).
This fine porcelain tea cup and saucer are in excellent condition, especially given their age, with no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing. Would make a wonderful Christmas present!
We have recently acquired a marvelous estate collection of cups and saucers - mostly demitasse, espresso, and chocolate cups - and will be listing them in small batches over the next few weeks. This is an eclectic collection, with one common element: they were all chosen as pieces of exceptional quality and taste.
Cups and saucers - especially the diminutive demitasse - make a wonderful Christmas present for someone special. If you're interested in a particular maker or style you don't see, please email us, and we may have it on hand.
