This is a pretty little demitasse (or demi tasse), cup and saucer set of Elfenbein (ivory) porcelain made in Bavaria by Eschenbach. The delicate pedestal cup is adorned with blue flowers trimmed with white and lined with gold enamel while the saucer boasts white flowers trimmed in gold and framed in blue. Gold leaves and embellishments abound on both pieces. The little loop handle on the cup is gilded and has a thumb rest; the small pedestal is also gold trimmed.
The cup measures 3” in diameter x 1 5/8” tall x 1 ½” across foot; pedestal is 5/16” high. The saucer is 4 ½” across.
Each piece is marked under the glaze in black with a crown / Eschenbach / Bavaria / Elfenbein / Porzellan. In use from 1945 (Kovel’s p. 89 mark B).
Condition is excellent with no damage of any kind, no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing. There is some minor gold loss from wear along the edges (see photos).
We have recently acquired a marvelous estate collection of cups and saucers - mostly demitasse, espresso, and chocolate cups - and will be listing them in small batches over the next few weeks. This is an eclectic collection, with one common element: they were all chosen as pieces of exceptional quality and taste.
Cups and saucers - especially the diminutive demitasse - make a wonderful Christmas present for someone special. If you're interested in a particular maker or style you don't see, please email us, and we may have it on hand."
