Here is an antique nursery bowl with full color decorations featuring dressed animals and a charming verse. Picture in bottom of bowl shows a stalwart policeman, a boxer dog, in blue uniform carrying a pretty little girl dog and holding a sweet little boy dog by the hand. The verse below reads: Charlie and Charlotte went one day / Out for a walk and lost their way. This group is enhanced by six individual prints: a fox, two pigs, a dancing bear and others around the inside walls of the bowl .
Measures 6 ¾” in diameter x 7/8” tall; the flat rim is about ½” wide.
Underside of bowl is marked with only Germany over the glaze in red. This dates the piece prior to 1891 when “made in…” would be required. (Doris Anderson Lechler's Children's Glass Dishes, China and Furniture, Volume I, pp. 137-138 features another piece from this set, dated to late 1800s.)
The condition is excellent with one tiny dimple on the rim from the making and a few tiny utensil marks. There is no real damage of any kind; no cracks, chips, or crazing. Colors are bright and there are no breaks in the printed rhyme. A captivating little item, full of fun!
