We have here a gorgeous old jasperware sugar shaker or muffineer in cobalt blue with white cameos of classical Greek women and stately trees. The domed lid is marked EPNS (electro-plated nickel silver) and is geometrically pierced, sporting a small spherical finial on a short post. The “cameos" or “sprigs" all are crisp and minutely detailed, and the handsome lid is of fine quality. There is some discoloration to the cobalt ground and some to the silver plate of the lid. (We gave the lid a light cleaning with a non-toxic metal polish). The cute little finial is a bit skewed to one side, but it doesn't affect the beauty of the piece. Sugar shaker measures 5 ¾" tall with lid; jar is 1 7/8" wide at mouth, and 2 ½" at base.
This piece is unmarked, but we are guessing it is Adams, made in late 1890s.
