Antique Aesthetic Movement Tusk Pitcher, Royal Worcester, 1888
We’re offering a gorgeous Royal Worcester tusk pitcher done in aesthetic movement style. The ground of the pitcher is a deep pink, covered completely with delicately stenciled ferns in 22K gold. The handle is a porcelain rendering of ram’s horn and bone secured with porcelain hasps. The rubbed look on the gold base, achieved through multiple glaze applications and firings, is meant to resemble metal. The same process is used on the tusk shaped handle, creating a rose red and pale green under glaze. Handle, base and edging are all enhanced or heavily covered with 22K gold. Interior of pitcher is pure white porcelain glaze. The overall effect is stunning.
Measures 8 ½” tall to top of spout x 6” wide (spout to handle end) x 3 1/8” wide across the base. Handle is about 5” long.
On underside is Royal Worcester’s mark in puce with form #1116 and Rd No 37112 for registered in 1886 (The Potteries). Mark is without England and bears a capitol Z underneath which means made in 1888 (Godden’s #4350). Only other mark is an M or N in script. Condition is excellent.
