Sweet and very cute set of three Peter Rabbit children’s dishes: The mug depicts Peter, Cotton-tail, Flopsy and Mopsy being dressed by Old Mrs. Rabbit to go outdoors while she goes shopping. There are pictures on front and back of mug and a whimsical one of Peter running away inside the mug. The bowl shows Mrs Rabbit with her basket and umbrella, while the plate has Peter in bed with just his ears sticking out as Mrs Rabbit attempts to dose him with camomile tea. All pieces are enhanced with the appropriate lines from the book in clear, easy-to-read lettering.
Each piece is marked underneath with the modern Wedgwood backstamp which was put into use in 1940. Under the mark are the Frederick Warne, Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit copyright marks, without dates, which we believe was done only until ca.1980. Mug measures 4” wide from rim to handle end x 2 7/8” tall; Cereal Bowl 5 5/8” in diameter x 1 ¾” tall; Plate is 6 7/8” across x ¾” tall.
All three pieces are in like-new condition with no cracks, chips, scratches or crazing; and all of the painted figures and lettering are free of breaks or flaking. This set is ready for gift-giving and for years of enjoyment.
