Here we have a beautiful bonbon dish in Aynsley’s Orchard Gold pattern signed by resident artist Doris Jones. Lovely center of dish, done with transfer and hand painting, bears still life of peaches, plums, hazelnuts and berries on a deep yellow field. Styled as a modified triangle, the piece bears gently scalloped edges trimmed with gold. The top of the triangle boasts a little scallop shell cartouche and a matching one is at the center of edge directly below it. The deep yellow background, the colorful fruit and the gold edging give a sense of richness and warmth.
It measures (roughly) 7 1/8” wide x 6 ½” tall; sloping sides are about 5 ¾” long. Mark on underside is in green under the glaze: crown with Bone on one side and China on the other/banner with Aynsley/ England. Mark was used by Kenneth Aynsley, grandson of founder John Aynsley, from 1934-1939 at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent (The Potteries; Artifact Free Encyclopedia).
Condition is excellent with just a speck of excess gold on left lower edge. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing and no gold or paint loss.
