Here we have a large bowl with an ornate machine tooled frame and a hand painted porcelain center. It is unmarked, but we believe it to be German. It is obviously from the 19th century. The plate at center bears a droll portrait of a little boy and girl walking as they share an umbrella and the rain pours down on them. The boy wears a little Tyrolian hat and carries a large thuringer sausage wrapped in paper. The girl wears a kerchief and apron and carries a loaf of bread and a pitcher of wine. The colors are very bright and clear. Measures 11 1/4" diameter x 2 7/8" tall; 4 1/4" diameter foot; 6" diameter center plate.
The porcelain plate is in excellent condition, but there is a section underneath where the outer metal frame is coming loose from the central part that holds the plate, and the piece is lop-sided when sitting flat. The metal frame needs to be cleaned with metal polish as it shows some verdi gris. The bowl is lovely and unusual as it is, but the whole effect could be stunning after a bit of TLC. – On the other hand it could endear itself to you as it is. I know it did to me as it sat here waiting to be photographed. It is really sweet. - We have set the price to reflect the damage.
(We have another bowl that matches this one, but with a different picture. Please take a look!)
